Welcome message from the creator of VCENotes.com

Greetings, VCE students of '09!

It should be clear by now that the VCE system, unfortunately, is troubled by the problem of inequality between students from differing socio-economic areas of society. The vast gap separating the top and bottom schools ensures that there are able, willing and motivated students who are being left behind, struggling at the bottom. Top quality education should be easily accessible and affordable, but the current system does not allow this. VCENotes.com is not here to point the blame. www.VCENotes.com is here to provide the solution.

In its first year of operation, VCENotes accumulated over 200 notes files and other resources in more than 20 subjects from generous members, and a big thank you goes out to those people. Our forums collected more than 125,000 posts from over 5000 members who signed up. The Maths forums collected literally thousands of problems, all of them solved with full working provided by the site's resident mathematicians. On the English forum alone, hundreds of pieces of work were reviewed and corrected by tirelessly helpful members. Most, if not all, problems and queries in every other VCE subject, on the VCE system and VCAA itself, and on ENTER, VTAC and the University selection process went answered to the fullest extent possible. Many topics generated lively discussion among all members, and many friendships and relationships were born this year from people meeting on the site. A wonderful, friendly community has been created here that enjoys welcoming newcomers, and all are urged to register!

Performance by members this year was heartening. Of all reported scores on the site, the median ENTER was 92.75 and the median study score was 39, which places the VCENotes.com cohort among the elite private schools in terms of rankings. Two members attained a perfect 99.95. In every sense, VCENotes.com has become a raging success as the ultimate companion to any student studying the VCE. And what's more? It's 100% FREE. In 2009, I will be looking to expand the revenue generated by advertising (whilst adding as little ad space as possible) in order to keep the website running at break-even or profit. The forum was so popular during critical times this year, that as a result, two upgrades to the server were needed. Hopefully, with extra money in the coffers, the website's design will be upgraded by the beginning of VCE 2010. At this juncture, I would like to re-affirm my commitment to keeping this website free for all users.

In terms of my own reflections on this past year, I was truly amazed at the willingness of so many to help their peers. I am proud to have created this website, but all I had was a vision. 5000 members (and growing!) made this vision a reality and I want to take this opportunity to personally thank all of those loyal members who made this site what it is today. Every single bit of content on this website is user-generated. A big thank you goes out to all who contributed this past year and I hope to see you continue this year!

To all current VCE students, I urge you to sign up today and take part in a community that will truly help anyone undertaking the VCE. Good luck to all of you, and I hope to see you on the forums!
